We see Srila Prabhupada with press reporters and on the television news in San Francisco.

We also see 1974 London Rathayatara, a smaller festival than previous years, this time Prabhupada is not present.

From San Francisco Srila Prabhupada proceeds to Dallas, Texas, the location of the US Hare Krishna school (Gurukula).

Then Prabhupada visits the New Vrindavan farm community in West Virginia, then the Henry Street temple in Brooklyn, New York. Then to Caracas, Venezuela, then Atlanta, Georgia.

Finally we see Srila Prabhupada in Calcutta, India, then we see him travelling to Mayapur for the 1975 Mayapur festival.

1975 was the first big Mayapur festival, the first time most of the devotees who had been in the movement for a while went to India. A hardcore band appears to be a very material solid hard heavy thing but if it's contacted with the spirit then it becomes energized like when we plug into an electric outlet it becomes electrified. So when we plug it into Krishna by using the band as a way of expressing emotion for Krishna and also to serve Him, please Him, introduce people to Him, then the band also becomes another aspect of meditation or yoga.

These thing's are temporary, and we're not temporary.

Sex is suffering.

Sex, people got after sex like it's the only thing in the world but there's a time in your life that you're not going to be able to have sex and if you depend on it for happiness then you're in a lot of trouble because you're going to suffer.

And that one thing is an intense desire for selfless love. A love that can't be found on the TV set and won't be bought in the store. We search for relationships that are full with reciprocation and only a weak person will deny that.,

George also sang about Krishna in his music. The most famous George Harrison Krishna song is, of course, "My Sweet Lord," but many of George's other songs are about Krishna also.

In the 1990's ISKCON had their first big reunion of the desciples of Srila Prabhupada at Bhaktivedanta Manor, the property donated to ISKCON by George, so naturally George attended.

After the Krishna Balarama Temple opening Srila Prabhupada travels to Melbourne Australia where there are many preaching engagements cumulating in the official opening of the new ISKCON Melbourne Temple in Danks Street Albert Park. This building was previously a Catholic school and the devotees converted the school into a beautiful temple and the big house on the properly they transformed into "Prabhupada House".

Prabhupada's preaching engagements and the installation of Sri Sri Gaura Nitai were very comprehensively documented by William Kerr, who filmed all these activities on high quality 16mm film.

New Dwarka, Los Angeles was the headquarters of Srila Prabhupada's Bhaktivedanta Book Trust. Prabhupada's primary service to his spiritual master was to write and print his transcendental books, and during the previous year he had been writing many books. Prabhupada had translated the entire 17 volume Caitanya-caritamrta book set but none of the books had been published. There were also three volumes of his Srimad-Bhagavatam pending publishing.

So Srila Prabhupada was somewhat disturbed that he had written so many books but instead of publishing him the manuscripts were just lying in the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust in Los Angeles.

So immediately, on a morning walk, Prabhupada brought up this point, and asked Ramesvara Prabhu, the BBT manager, how long it would take to print the pending books. The reply was they were currently printing one book every 3-4 months, so they could speed this up to printing one book every 2 months. Prabhupada contemplated this and rejected this schedule. Instead he ordered they print all the pending 17 books within two months.

This was a great shock to the devotees but Ramesvara, after initially telling Srila Prabhupada that was impossible, and Prabhupada retorting that "Impossible is a word in a fools dictionary." he surrendered to the idea thinking if Prabhupada was ordering it, then somehow, it must be possible.

That was the beginning of the Sri Caitanya-caritamrta book printing marathon of 1975. Somehow it was successful. By January 1977 Prabhupada was beginning to experience difficulties and his disciples were aware of this. A large group of devotees accompanied Srila Prabhupada to the Kumbha Mela Festival in Allahabad. Then we see Prabhupada at 1977 Mayapur Gaura Purnima Festival.

In March 1977 Srila Prabhupada attended his final public preaching program, a large Pandal Program in Bombay. In May of 1977 Prabhupada journeyed to Rishikesh with some hopes that he may be able to regain his health there. But unfortunately there was not much improvement.

Prabhupada returns to Vrindavan and remains there from May to August 1977 continuing to work on translation of his life's work, Srimad-Bhagavatam.

Then during August 1977 Prabhupada embarks on a surprise trip to London, with plans to continue on to the United States. However he was very unwell and convinced Brahmananda to change his tickets, cancelling his United States visit, returning to Vrindavan instead.

We all know Srila Prabhupada was convinced that NASA was not sending men to the moon in the 1960's. Prabhupada was the only person in the world who was boldly proclaiming that, first, before NASA tried, that they could not go to the moon, and then, after they apparently went to the moon, convincing practically everyone on the planet, still Srila Prabhupada refused to accept that NASA had send men to the Moon. Why?

This created problems with some of Srila Prabhupada's followers also. Some disciples left the movement, because they could not believe that scientitsts would lie to them. But Prabhupada was convinced, that "they can not go to the moon with their mechanical rockets and space ships."

Why? Why was Prabhupada so convinced NASA was not able to send men to the moon when the whole world was believing in NASA and science?

The reason is Srila Prabhupada is completely aware of the construction and workings of the material world we find ourselves implicated in.

This material world is a prison and all the planets are prison cells. So we have been allocated to this prison cell, Earth, and we are destined to suffer here for a certain period. We can not escape. Just like a prisoner in a maximum security jail, he can not escape. We can not escape this earth.

Of course there is a way, but that is not by using rockets or any mechanical machine. The way is by yoga, meditation. In that way we can travel to other planets as Srila Prabhupada describes in his book: Easy Journey to Other Plantes:

"The Followers" (Les Adeptes) focuses on nineteen year old Michael. We see him in the beginning with a full head of hair, he gets shaved up in the temple and we follow his progress in Krishna consciousness for six months.

The preaching mood, book distribution, street chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra, strict following of the regulative principles (no illicit sex, no meat eating, no gambling and no intoxication) are evident.

Michael and other devotees from ISKCON Montréal travel to the United States to visit New Vrindavan in West Virginia for Janmastami and Srila Prabhupada's appearance day festival.

The film concludes with Michael and a number of other new devotees being initiated by Kirtananda, who they call "Bhaktipada", seated on a royal throne, presenting himself as Srila Prabhupada's successor and claiming to be a liberated, self-realized soul, non-different from Krishna, just like Prabhupada.

Michael was initiated as Maha Visnu dasa, I wonder where he is now? And the hundred or more full-time devotees in the Montréal temple at the time? I hope they are all chanting Hare Krishna and very happy.

This film, "The Followers" (Les Adeptes) is an incredible snapshot in time and has captured a unique picture of ISKCON just after the departure of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

At that time the Berlin ISKCON temple was a small storefront virtually in the red-light district of Berlin. Very good location in the sense that you could just walk out the door and distribute books and perform Harinama Sankirtana.

This is a very amazing look into the life of the devotees and temple activities back in 1973 in ISKCON.

In July of 1969 George invited the devotees to make a recording of the Maha Mantra for release as a single. Harrison produced and performed on the song, for which Mukunda provided the musical arrangement and played mridangam, and Yamuna and Shyamsundar served as lead vocalists. Malati, Janaki, Gurudas and others joined in as chorus singers, in addition to playing percussive instruments such as kartals.

Released by Apple Records in August, and credited to Radha Krishna Temple (London), "Hare Krishna Mantra" peaked at number 12 on the UK's national singles chart and was a commercial success around the world. The devotees twice performed the song on BBC-TV's Top of the Pops and played a series of concerts across Europe to meet public demand. Mukunda later said: "We went from street people to celebrity status. Overnight."

Aided by the association with Harrison, the single established the ancient mantra in the cultural mainstream, while also attracting many new members to ISKCON's centres.

For the growing London temple, this achievement was accompanied by a more tolerant attitude from a previously wary public. The 1980s was a turbulent decade for the Hare Krishna Movement in America. There was a lot of bad publicity, some caused by overly enthusiastic book distribution techniques in the airports and some caused by a a court case brought by the students of ISKCON's schools.

So the book distribution suffered. In 1987 a group of young Hare Krishna devotees decided to start distributing Prabhupada's books to the general public again. Their experience is very uplifting and ecstatic and they share some of that with us in this video.
