Srimati Radharani

Vrindavan, India

Radharani is the chief gopi or cowherd girl of Vrindavan at the time when Krishna was there as a boy. Krishna became very enchanted by the beauty of Radharani and on full-moon nights Krishna would go into the forests of Vrindavan and play incredibly beautiful music on His flute. Being attracted by the enchanting flute playing of Krishna all the young girls would leave their homes and go into the forest to find Krishna. Of all the girls of Vrindavan Radharani was the most beautiful and the most dear to Krishna. Radhastami is the day Radharani appeared and it is celebrated by devotees of Krishna all over the world.
