The Hare Krishnas used many illegal and deceptive practices to collect money. I saw one dressed as an Easter Bunny on Easter Sunday, saying she was collecting money for poor children. I called her out, and she got embarrassed and walked away after admitting she was working for ISKCON. They are told that they can be deceptive to the kamis (term for non-followers) because the end justifies the means. The organization has a long history of scandals, illegal activities, abuse of children, etc. Many people demand meaning to life, and since no one knows what it is, they pick up on someone else's myth and find comfort in making that their reality. Essentially, it is nonsense.
