  • Srila Prabhupada first visited Australia on May 9th, 1971. At that time the Sydney devotes had opened a small temple in Paddington, an intercity suburb of Sydney.
    This film was originally black and white television news footage and has been restored and colorized with the best AI technology available at the moment. So if you have seen it before, watch it again, this time in living color!
    However, we have decided not to go ahead with this AI colorization for other shows at this time as, although it does some amazing work, it is only working on one frame at a time and the result is that it is not aware of the colors it has chosen for items on the previous frames. So you will see it guesses different colors for the same item on different frames of the film. Also there is no way to give it hints as to what the actual colors should be. So for the time being we are not preceding with colorization on any of the other black and white films. Perhaps the technology will improve in the future. Still it is very interesting to watch this film and compare it with the black and white version at:

    This short film is a television news piece broadcast nationally on Australian TV in 1971. We see Srila Prabhupada arriving at the Paddington temple in a Volkswagen (VW) van.
    Srila Prabhuapda had carried with him the beautiful Sydney Deities, Sri Sri Radha Gopinatha and we see him performing the installation ceremony of Radha Gopinatha in this film.
    The television reporter was particularly interested in the story of one of the female devotees. She had just joined the ISKCON temple a couple of months ago and her mother and aunt were there and in the interview.
    A very interesting intimate glimpse into the beginnings of the Hare Krishna movement in Australia.
