Michael Nguyen 5 years agoIf you could have Krishna Consciousness and encourage diversity and not be so strict about the rules, people would be much happier. Pray to Krishna, sing bhajans, eat vegetarian prasad, be friends with eachother. But its all about expanding the movement, and its all about pleasing other devotees and the spiritual master. At the end of the day you should please Krishna, not a bunch of other humans with human problems, and human concerns. Surrendering to the divine is not about following rituals, and religious injunctions, that's all a corporate exploitation tactic from the patriarchal dominance hierarchy. If you want to experience love and happiness, it needs to come from within, it doesn't come from fawning other devotees and being a sycophant, and forcing yourself to be humble all the time. All that humility is an act, and eventually it starts to wear off. True humility is invisibility, its not putting yourself in the spotlight or acting "humble" and spiritual. People need to stop trying to impress their gurus, this just creates a culture of toxic positivity. You need to learn how to negotiate, how to be critical, and how to engage in conflict, and conflict resolution. We can just all sing and be happy all day. Life is full of complications, and just because people smile on the outside, it doesn't mean they aren't crying on the inside.

Michael Nguyen 5 years agoIts very happy on the surface but Krishna's are like normal people. They have pain, anxiety, angst, depression, stress, worries, fear. Its because they mask their emotions more as they have to present a positive image for public relations purposes, and therefore they practice strained sincerity as a way to feel and come across as humble. The authoritarian structure of the Krishna Cult makes it impossible for people to be truly happy, because there is no equality between people, it is about sacrificing your own happiness for the sake of everybody elses' happiness. So if you are depressed and sad, you have to suck it up and ignore your emotions and continue to be humble for the sake of your sociopathic, greedy, narcissistic and power hungry guru. Its an extremely exploitative system.

J J 4 years ago@MissBelle79 Great mate. The original poster has shared their experiences, I have posted that I can attest to their validity. Instead of discounting and denying those experiences, why don't you add something to the conversation by telling us about your experiences? Are you saying you do not believe the original poster? Why? If you grew up as a teen in the Hare Krsna's, in the temple or one of their properties then you will know first hand of many of your peers who are not so happy about their experiences, and many who have taken class actions regarding abuse, you will also know about the sexual abuse by so called gurus, Bhavananda, Kirtananda etc, and the sexual abuse of children within the indian gurukulas by so called sanyasis? Etc etc. So please tell us what you observed. While you seem proud to endorse such a cult, I am very grateful that my period of involvement and in worshipping idols was confined to 5 years.
