In wealthy Western countries the Hare Krishnas austere monastic life appears strange and unappealing but some wonder if they're really seeking a better life or hiding from reality.

Australian television reporters have been trying to understand the Hare Krishna movement and what happened to it for many years and have produced dozens of documentaries.

This one, from 1994, centers around Bhaktin Kim, a devotee at the North Sydney temple who was considering taking initiation from Tamal Krishna Gosvami.

They follow Kim on a pilgrimage to Vrindavan, India.

They try to understand the effect Srila Prabhupada's disappearance in 1977 had on ISKCON and cover the guru fall-downs and confusion of the 1980s.

They interview the Bhavananda as an example of a fallen guru and Mukunda as an example of a not-fallen guru.

It is an interesting example of an outsider trying to understand and document what happened to the Hare Krishnas.
